Annual cabaret show ‘Night At The Musicals’ raised an incredible £1,279 for Breast Cancer Research.

The full audience at the Saturday performance applauded when it was revealed after the final song that the bid to top £1,000 was successful.

Thursday’s opening night raised an impressive £315, which was followed by Friday’s £395. Saturday’s £569 total sent the cumulative figure soaring into four figures, easily topping the amount raised by last year’s show, which ran for two nights and took a respectable £500.

‘Night At The Musicals’ is now the most-watched Minotaur show of the academic year, with each night nearing capacity.

Jenny Tyler, who directed the show alongside Sarah Jones and Sophie-Lee Colchester, said “It was a joy to work with this very talented company and perform to such receptive audiences. But the fact that we were able to raise so much money for Breast Cancer research makes this event incredibly special and one I will never forget.”

The annual show, which is the only production of the year to allow non-members to audition, had a company of 23, supported by a four-piece band and compères Ellie Scarfe and Shaun Kitchener. This was the first year the show had been given an official name, after being billed as ‘Cabaret’ in previous years.

Sophie-Lee will announce her co-directors for the 2011 show at the Julians at the end of the year.
