Classics
Minotaur’s newest slot, ‘The Classics Slot’ sees Minotaur produce an annual production of a Classic Play. Birthed in 2023/24 under former Minotaur Presidents Todd Bell and Daisy Dolan, The Classics Slot premiered with ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ followed by ‘The Bacchae’ in early 2025. The Classics Slot allows Minotaur to present audiences with a wider range of theatre whilst also allowing its members to flesh out their skills and CVS by dealing with classical texts. Given that this is a fairly new slot it is still one that is constantly evolving and everyone at Minotaur cannot wait to see how it develops in the future now that it has cemented itself as part of our calendar. MINOTAUR’S ‘AS YOU LIKE IT’
The 2026 Classics Slot, only the third in Minotaur’s History, marked a number of firsts for the company and resulted in a brilliant, laugh out loud production of the classic Shakespeare comedy. Directed by Mai Stacey & Abbie Want and Stage Managed by Izzy Wayne, the 12 strong cast found themselves performing at the UEA Council Chamber rather than our usual home of the UEA Drama Studio. The show was performed as a ‘One Night Only Shakespearean Spectacular’ to a sold out crowd. And as part of a wonderful collaboration, it featured a fantastic jazz band from the UEA Music Society led by Ollie Swift & Ollie De Vita.
The show was backed by a strong marketing campaign, led by Publicity Head Betsy James, which amassed more that 100,000 views across Minotaur’s social media pages with help from fellow committee members Jamie Radcliffe and Mai Stacey and a cast and crew who were always willing to get involved!
The 2026 Classics Slot was Minotaur’s biggest and best one yet and everyone involved cannot wait to see how it evolves in future years!

ABOUT THE PLAY: A mind-bending, visually stunning and updated staging of the classic Greek tale of Dionysus and The Bacchae - The Bacchae is an ancient Greek tragedy, written by the Athenian playwright Euripides during his final years in Macedonia, at the court of Archelaus I of Macedon.
DEVISED: This production saw Minotaur take a step into the world of devised theatre. With no director at the helm, the cast and producers worked together closer in rehearsals alongside analysis of the script to produce a partially devised performance.
FUN FACT: This production appears to be one of Minotaur’s only forays into Greek Theatre!
